The sound of ‘chug chug…chuk….chuk’ with an occasional whistling sound made by the steam engine whizzing past me, still holds special memories, since I, as an Army Officer’s child have travelled the length and breadth of India by many different trains and thought about enlightening readers about the top 9 Indian Rail Trips that ought to be taken by each one of you that wishes to see the country at its magnanimous best:
1. Golden Chariot from Bangalore to Goa

Travelling from Pune to New Delhi? Then, hop on to this train as is takes about 20 hours as journey time and the price includes food too. There are a number of facilities like bottle holders, reading lights and phone sockets.
8. Himalayan Queen
I have traveled from Kalka to Shimla by this super awesome train that weaves its way through many bridges and tunnels. One can see apple orchards and flowering trees and waterfalls from his or her cubicle. It takes about 5 hours to reach.
9. Mandovi Express
From Madgaon to Mumbai, the train takes you on a whirlwind journey , passing through bends and curves that lend a unique experience of traveling the Indian countryside.
